Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle

Werner Heisenberg proved that certain pairs of physical properties cannot be precisely measured simultaneously. The more precisely you measure position, the less you know about momentum. The act of observation disturbs the observed.
In the digital realm, platforms face a similar uncertainty. They cannot observe your behavior without affecting it. But unlike physics, where this is a fundamental limit, surveillance capitalism treats the observer effect as a feature. The disturbance creates new data.
The Collapse of the Wave Function

Before observation, a quantum particle exists in superposition—all possible states simultaneously. You were once in superposition. You could have been anyone, done anything, followed any path. Then the platforms began to observe.
Each observation collapsed your potential into a specific outcome. You clicked. Therefore you are a clicker. You lingered. Therefore you are a lingerer. The probability wave of your identity narrowed with each measurement.
You are no longer who you might have been. You are who you were observed to be.
Prediction as Causation

In classical physics, prediction describes what will happen. In the attention economy, prediction creates what happens.
The algorithm predicts you will click. It shows you content calibrated to make you click. You click. The prediction is validated. But what if you would not have clicked without the prediction? The observation created the reality it claimed to measure.
This is not prediction. This is construction disguised as prediction. The model builds the user it then claims to have discovered.
Schrödinger's Data

Schrödinger's cat exists in superposition—simultaneously alive and dead—until the box is opened. Your data exists similarly. You are simultaneously private and exposed, free and manipulated, individual and profiled, until someone checks.
But unlike the cat, your box is never closed. Observation never stops. There is no moment of privacy because there is no moment without observation.
The Measurement Problem
You cannot be observed without being changed. You cannot be changed without being known. You cannot be known without being predicted. You cannot be predicted without being shaped.

The observer effect is not an error to be minimized. It is the mechanism of control.
The observer is always watching. You are always being observed. The waveform has collapsed. And what remains is not who you were, but who you were observed to be.
